Drawing is the foundation of McConnon’s practice. It is the process in which she expresses her initial ideas and concepts. It marks the humble beginnings of every painting, sculpture or installation that she has created. It is the process with which she studies and researches her subject. It is also a technique she uses to create finished artworks often on a large scale.
For McConnon drawing is a visual script that records a dialogue between idea and intuition which results in an honest rawness of expression. It has become the custodian of the artist’s inner most thoughts and the most personal aspect of her work.
