Drawing Series 2010-2011
“Barrels, Sandbags and Empty chairs”
Miriam’s new series of drawings, entitled, “Barrels, Sandbags and Empty chairs” is influenced by the scars and marks of conflict. These marks of conflict have become integrated into the urban landscape of Nicosia, Cyprus.
The patterns that are formed by these scars of conflict are highlighted in Miriam’s recent charcoal drawings. The drawings are large in scale, many are almost life size. It is the pattern made by a row of barrels, or that made by sandbags stacked in abundance or the old faded pattern of an abandoned chair, that are the visual reminder of a time that has past.
The recent body of work aims to question the way we view partitions in our lives. The partitions that we can see, and those that we cannot.
